The newly refurbished premises at Galleywood Medical Centre have been officially opened, following its takeover by a private healthcare company in one of the first developments of its kind in the country.
A new clinical and management team has taken over at the surgery, in Bekeswell Place, Barnard Road, Galleywood, introduced by ChilversMcCrea Healthcare, a clinician-led company based in Hertfordshire.
The company says that the scheme is a new approach and is one of the first of its kind in the UK.
The new team includes GP Dr Philip Lancaster, nurse practitioner Karen Saville, who can issue prescriptions, and practice nurse Kathy Hookins.
The practice management team is led by Dawn Allison, supported by a team of reception and administration staff.
Dr Rory McCrea, of ChilversMcCrea Healthcare, explained: "The team has a variety of strengths to bring into practice including minor surgery, well women clinics, diabetes care as well as heart disease care."
ChilversMcCrea Healthcare, which has taken over the running of the centre, will be working in partnership with Chelmsford Primary Care Trust, which was responsible for upgrading the premises.
