Thurrock Council has agreed to consider extending the lease of a local sports and social club after members presented it with a 400-name petition.
It has written to secretary of Thurrock Borough Council Sports and Social Club, Mick Camp, saying that the matter will be brought before the overview and scrutiny committee.
In April it was reported the club in Richmond Road, Grays, which has been open for more than 20 years, has been running on a six-monthly lease for the past two years.
The shortened lease means it cannot make any bookings for the long-term, such as weddings, a main source of income. Without the money, it would be unable to stay afloat and be forced to close next January.
A group of protesters rallied round and handed in the petition to save the club.
