A new option is being put forward as a site for Clacton's multi-million pound health centre.
Land which has been declared surplus by Essex County Council at The Windsor School, in Holland Road, would provide the ideal location.
That's the view of Tendring district councillor Roy Smith, who wants to see the three-acre site kept for the community rather than developed for new homes.
"It is not in Holland-on-Sea, as many of the campaigners are calling for, but it is on the main bus route for the residents, and I feel it would serve them better than Kennedy Way," he said.
"My next step will be to write to Tendring Primary Care Trust chief executive Paul Unsworth to ask for the idea to be investigated.
"The Trust has always said there were no other suitable parcels of land for the scheme, but I think this one could be worth looking at now it has become available."
Tendring Primary Care Trust is searching for land to build the centre for more than 20,000 patients in Great Clacton and Holland-on-Sea.
