A town's football club has been shown the red card over its unsightly new floodlights.
Residents have complained about scaffolding on the pavilion at Frinton's Jubilee Way playing fields the home of Walton Town FC.
The club has put up six floodlights without planning permission.
Now people living nearby have blown the whistle, claiming it is an invasion of their privacy.
A petition said the poles were unsightly and there was also concern about the increase in light.
Frinton and Walton Town Council also objected and felt the lights should be lower.
Tendring Council planning officer Richard Fletcher believed that issues over noise and light can be overcome, but said the light poles were an eyesore.
The council hopes to hold talks with club officials about the situation in a bid to reach a compromise.
