Supermarket wars are hotting up, with Tesco planning to expand two of its Basildon stores.
Pitsea Tesco Extra, above, is already one of the biggest supermarkets in the country and Tesco hopes to retain its stranglehold by putting an extra floor in both the Mayflower retail park store and the store in Mandeville Way, Laindon.
Its main fight will be with Asda, which will be opening a second store in Basildon next month.
The giant Asda will be in the Eastgate Centre.
It will be one of only 12 Asda Wal-Mart Supercentres in Britain.
