The Blackwater Challenge Offshore Angling Festival, now in its seventh year, took place over two days with more than 200 recordable fish, spanning nine species, being landed during the two day festival.

The stiff easterly wind and heavy swell that dominated the opening day's fishing abated to allow some boats to reach 30 miles offshore for the second day's principal event.

Thorpe Bay angler Pete Marron won the first day competition and the Silver Claritin with a fine haul of Thornback Ray up to 11 lbs.

His wife Bren was awarded the tee shirt for first fish of the day.

The second day provided terrific sport, fishing both wrecks and deep water marks, with the Jenna D taking best boat/skipper honours.

David Payne, from Southend, took the MBM award for best newcomer, with best fish of the day and the Terry Batt trophy going to Liam Lakes for a stunning five pounds bass taken on hermit crab.
