Patients should be smelling more fragrant at Southend Hospital thanks to a "Smellies for the Sick" appeal.
Appeal - Christine with some of the toiletries Picture: STEVE O'CONNELL
Christine Mason, 51, of Englefield Close, Hawkwell, is asking people to donate unwanted toiletries.
She said: "Hospitals supply people with the basics, but the basics are very basic. If you are ill it's nice to have decent smellies to keep yourself clean."
Mrs Mason got the idea while visiting her mother at Southend Hospital and there was a sign on the wall asking visitors to donate toiletries.
A nurse explained to her many people admitted on an unexpected basis were unable to bring basic accessories.
Mrs Mason is running her appeal through Hawkwell Residents Association. So far she has taken 43 deodorants, 90 shower gel and bath foams, plus 210 bars of soap into hospital.
