Residents in Little Clacton were left in the dark after a fault with a power cable.
Many customers in the Harwich Road and Plough Corner area of the village were unaware that there was a power cut as they slept in the early hours of Tuesday morning
But during the day, many found they were without electricity for much of the morning and afternoon.
Dorothy Fayers, 82, who lives at Plough Corner, said her electricity was cut off from about 10am to 3.30pm.
A spokeswoman from EDF Energy, which supplies the power, said the first disruption was caused by a fault on an overhead power line, leaving 41 customers without electricity from 1am to about 2.45am.
The spokeswoman apologised for any inconvenience caused
