Out-of-contract Colchester United duo Scott Fitzgerald and Andy Myers today signed new deals with Second Division rivals Brentford.

Experienced Layer Road defender, Myers penned a two-year contract along with highly-rated Northampton Town midfielder Chris Hargreaves, while former U's skipper Fitzgerald agreed a one-year term.

Delighted Bees team boss Martin Allen said all three deals will take effect from July 1.

U's boss Phil Parkinson told the Evening Gazette: "Everything that needs to be said about Fitz has already been said.

"But I'm really pleased for Andy and wish him all the best because we weren't in a position to offer him a contract."

Ex-Chelsea FA Cup winner Myers told the Evening Gazette just 24 hours earlier that a move to the Bees was 'news to me.'

Myers also said: "My phone has remained very quiet and I've not made contact with anyone."

Fitzgerald, meanwhile, said: "I'm highly delighted to have got a new deal sorted out."
