Shoppers beware! That's the warning from Clacton police.
In the past month there has been 27 separate incidents where purses and wallets have been stolen from shoppers in Clacton town centre, unaware they were the victims of crime until it was too late.
Some of the incidents have involved the shopper being distracted by one thief, while another steals the purse.
Elaine Seymour, spokesman for Clacton police, said: "Let's not make it easy for these callous thieves a little extra care can prevent them from stealing your money."
The latest incident happened in Pier Avenue, Clacton, when a mother went to get her baby out of the pram and realised her handbag was missing.
The advice for shoppers is:
Purses and wallets should be kept in a secure bag or pocket
Never leave them visible or in unattended bags
Make sure you replace your purse or wallet securely each time you use it.
