A youth council is to be relaunched in the hope young people will become more involved in the running of their community.
Witham Town Council has approved a new draft constitution for a reformed youth council representing those aged under 18, and a new youth council is to be set up in Hatfield Peverel.
In Witham, there has been a youth council for several years, and its members successfully campaigned for lighting on the River Walk.
But recently, concerns have surfaced that the existing youth council does not get enough guidance from the town council and that its one-year term of office does not provide sufficient time to see projects through.
Among the council's proposals are:
Increased terms of office of two years
More representation from the town's two secondary schools
Informal training for youth councillors
Surgeries for young constituents to raise their concerns
