A review of community facilities is set to generate millions of pounds for improvements, a council has revealed.

After public consultations, Braintree Council's cabinet believes it has decided on the final paper of proposals for the future improvement of community facilities.

Leader of the council, Graham Butland, revealed that, with the proposed sale of land behind Spring Lodge community centre, Witham, at Great Bradfords Hall, Braintree, and Forest Road, Witham, along with money from the council's existing capital programme, it expects to have somewhere in the region of £5m.

Of that money, £4m will then go towards improving existing facilities for the community throughout the district.

The surplus of £1m will go towards the council's capital fund to improve facilities in the future.

Money will also be spent on a new community facility on the Rickstones site, Witham, and improvements to Spring Lodge, as well as constructing new changing rooms and a car park for the adult education college and Bramston School, Witham.
