A RETIRED school teacher has been honoured with an MBE for 66 years of voluntary work at Southend Hospital.

Gladys Mude, 81, of Ronald Park Avenue, Westcliff, has spent most of her life in various roles at the hospital and still helps out one day a week on the information desk.

The former deputy-head at Hamstel Junior School, in Southchurch, was delighted to hear the news.
