Basildon skipper Paul Ayres declared his side had gone back to square one after a seven-wicket defeat to leaders Epping.
Kiran Sangani (30), Frank McLeod (22) and Mark Amos (20) were the only batsmen to prosper as S Wakeman claimed 6-15 for the visitors.
Dean Sibley (45no) and M Webb (37no) top scored for the top dogs as they reached their target for the loss of only three wickets at Mopsies Park.
"We are just not competitive enough," said Ayres, whose side had won two in a row.
