Newly-promoted Westcliff are beginning to make their mark in the top flight after pulling off their second successive win.

After disposing of Fives and Heronians last weekend, even frequent stoppages for rain showers failed to halt Westcliff's march to a 22-point tally against Shenfield - the extra two points were for winning after batting first.

Former skipper Tim Wade enjoyed an excellent game for Westcliff. He struck a quickfire 62 in a total of 208 - Nick Cooper making 37 and Steve Bridgeman 24.

Then, when Shenfield replied, they were bowled out for 122 with Wade finishing with figures of 4-20. Overseas' man Eric Zehner took 5-35.

Westcliff skipper John Pratt said: "Apart from the rain showers which were a real pain - we must have been forced off four times during our innings - it was an excellent day for us.

"It was an important win for us as Fives followed up their defeat by us with a win over Ilford."

Westcliff are now 13 points clear of second-from-bottom Fives and 22 ahead of basement club Shenfield.
