A major out-of-town retail giant is heading for Clacton.
Matalan, which has a store in Colchester, is interested in a number of sites in the resort and has been searching for a location for some time.
One of its preferred options is believed to be the current B&Q store, in Valley Road, which will be come available when the firm relocates to Brook Park.
B&Q has already signed up to move to the retail park, which is currently being built on the outskirts of Clacton.
Mick Page, portfolio holder for regeneration on Tendring Council, said he was delighted that a company like Matalan was being linked with the town.
He said: "I have not held any talks with them so far, but I am well aware they want to move into Clacton.
"We are talking about a major player in the retail market, new jobs and another big name for the district. I know they are looking at a number of possible sites and are very keen."
