Essex is heading for a building boom -once it emerges from its current construction trough.

Present low output on industrial and commercial premises and on infrastructure projects is likely to be reversed over the next three years.

Current growth is running at four per cent compared to 13 per cent in the South-East, 27 per cent in the north-west and 30 per cent in Wales.

But according to information specialists Experian, growth in the eastern region will rise by 13 per cent by 2006, substantially more than any of the other regions, which will grow between four and nine per cent.

James Hastings, head of Experian's business strategies division predicts the current trough in offices, shops and commercial construction will change to "exceptional" growth in 2006.

He added: "Infrasture output has been rather volatile in rscent years, but a number of new initiatives look set to bring strong gowth tby 2006.

"The area is also set to benefit from high level of public funding, and a stillbulllish housing market means that the marakets are looking good for the short term."
