A battling performance from Shoebury golfer Richard McEvoy allowed him to improve his European Tour merit placing by one up to 117th yesterday.

Former Thorpe Hall internatioonal amateur McEvoy, who has just celebrated his 25th birthday, had rounds of 74, 74, 75 and 72 for a seven over par 295 total and 60th place in the Diageo Championship at Gleneagles.

The 5,873 Euros he won took his earnings on this his first year on the Tour to 68,589 Euros after competing in 14 tournaments.

Meanwhile, on the European Seniors Tour in Jersey, a last round 78 proved costly for ex-Basildon and Thorpe Hall pro Bill Longmuir.

After rounds of 68 and 69, Anglo-Scot Longmuir had looked set for a big pay day, but that last 18 collapse saw him joint 10th and a prize of 4,054 Euros.
