Southend came within a whisker of getting their first win of the season in this tied match.
The seasiders needed three runs off their last ball to win but could only get two in what was a game of two innings.
Skipper Wayne Spear was angry with his attack for some bowling that allowed K Ali to score 111 as Woodford Green reached 269-9, Dave Aldridge (3-54) enjoying the best luck with the ball.
In contrast he was delighted with the batting that saw Southend were 140-0 at one stage. Aldridge hit 137 and Numan Khan 51 before they went with consecutive deliveries and Southend eventually fell a run short of victory.
"It was so frustrating," said Spear. "We bowled disgracefully, it was appalling. But then the second part of the game was fantastic and we should have won it."
