Two terrified young men were today recovering after being attacked with an iron bar or hammer before being robbed.
They were targeted just after 1am today in Gloucester Park car park in Basildon.
A gang of five youths, aged between 13 and 17, set about two local men, aged 18 and 19, before stealing their mobile phones, cash and credit cards.
The two men managed to call emergency services and police and ambulance got to them at around 1.20am.
Both victims were taken to Basildon Hospital with head injuries.
The description of the gang is very vague, police said the young robbers' heights varied between 4ft and 5ft 8in.
