Elderly and disabled people in Rochford district have taken to a new community transport scheme so much that more funding may be sought to bolster it.
A report to Rochford District Council said the community transport and social car scheme, set up to help people who cannot access public transport, was booming, with nearly twice the number of members it had anticipated when it was set up in October last year.
There are currently 171 members and it is hoped by October a target of 500 journeys per month will also be achieved.
The scheme is operated by Rayleigh, Rochford and District Association for Voluntary Services with support from the council and other bodies.
A report will be presented to the next meeting of the council's policy and finance committee to find a way forward.
