The Friends of Disabled Bowlers club will be taking on Southend Police in a friendly to raise funds on Saturday, July 10.

The clash, which will start at 2.15pm and be opened by Councillor Gwen Horrigan, has been organised by secretary Elaine Mumford who will also be taking part at Southend United's Boots and Laces training ground.

"Last year, as a birthday surprise my husband organised for me to have a tour of Southend police station," explained Mumford.

"There we got talking to Mick Thwaites and he set up a meeting with Dave Jobson at Southend United.

"Mr Jobson then got back to us saying we could use the artificial surface at their training ground for free and it's been wonderful for us.

"It's been a really good year and, playing against able bodied bowlers, we've done well and have won two matches.

"Things are going well and hopefully there will be as many people as possible in attendance on July 10 because it should be a really fun day."
