A mother looked on in horror as a bus drove off with her 23-month-old daughter.

Still shaking - Tina Wright with her daughter Zoe Picture: STEVE BRADING

As Tina Wright folded her pushchair yesterday, she turned around to see the bus drive off down a Colchester street without her.

The mother of six said she has never felt so sick with worry when she realised her daughter, Zoe, was on board.

The incident happened at 8.30am in Ipswich Road, near East Hill. It was an Arriva bus, route number two.

The 36-year-old, of Wilson Marriage Road, said she was getting the bus home after dropping off two of her children at St James's School.

Her nightmare was spared minutes later when she saw a woman running toward her with Zoe in her arms.

Mrs Wright made a complaint to the bus company.

Kevin Hawkins, director for Arriva, said: "Clearly, this has been a very upsetting incident for all concerned and we are investigating it as a matter of urgency."
