Southend United skipper Kevin Maher will today put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

"Everything has been sorted and I will be going in this afternoon to sign," confirmed the composed midfielder.

"I'm glad everything has been completed and hopefully we can start next season the way we were playing towards the end of the last.

"We've lost a couple of key players but hopefully their replacements will prove just as good and we can give the fans plenty to cheer about."

Maher added he was sure he had made the right decision -- despite taking nearly two months to make up his mind.

"I took my time making this decision as it's a key stage of my career age-wise and I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing," said the former Tottenham Hotspur trainee, who joined the Shrimpers in January 1998.
