A schoolboy who has undergone major open heart surgery three times is to have a huge party as his mother attempts to raise £10,000 for the hospital which treated him.

Big thank you - Mark Petchey and Henry, with mum Sue, who plans to raise £10,000 as a thank you to the hospital that save Mark's life Picture: STEVE BAINBRIDGE

Ten-year-old Mark Petchey, of Priory Lodge, Tiptree, was born with complex congenital heart disease and has five major heart defects.

He underwent his first life-saving heart operation when he was just 36-hours-old and had further surgery when he was three.

At this point he could not walk from one end of the house to the other, and could not climb stairs.

The surgery was successful, but he did have to make a further trip to theatre after fluid gathered on his lungs and he became "very poorly".

On August 19, the final operation was carried out and was a complete success, according to his mum Sue.

Mrs Petchey said: "We are working our way towards our target of £10,000 after receiving various donations."

If anyone wants to make any donations they can contact Sue Petchey on 01621 816904.
