Colchester United hero Sam Stockley says he would be ready for Coca-Cola League One action right now despite undergoing surgery just 11 days ago.
Back in action - surgery is not slowing down the U's Sam Stockley.
The popular U's utility-player, sporting a new black hairstyle for the start of pre-season training, told the Evening Gazette he is 'almost fully recovered' from an operation to repair a damaged groin and two small hernias.
Stockley, who signed a new two-year contract to stay with the U's, said: "The specialist told me at the time of the operation that I had to be aggressive with my rehabilitation.
"He told me to do whatever I felt like doing. I couldn't do myself any harm and, although I feel a bit sore at times, I have taken him at his word and feel in great shape at this time."
The 26-year-old midfielder-cum-defender, who played in all but two of the U's 61 League and cup games last season, said: "I only went into hospital initially to have a painful ligament loosened in my groin.
"The surgery for the two hernias came as a complete surprise."
He said: "I had no idea that I had hernia problems until they went in to repair the damaged ligament."
