Patients, relatives and staff are set to benefit from major improvements to the cafeteria at St Peter's Hospital in Maldon.
The work is to be carried out under the Enhancing the Healing Environment programme which is financed by the King's Fund.
Maldon and South Chelmsford Primary Care Trust was successful in bidding for the funding along with just 22 other organisations across the country.
