Former Cambridge United striker Alex Revell will not be joining the Shrimpers for the start of pre-season training today.

The 20-year-old hitman has yet to recover from a foot injury and is currently on crutches.

"I cracked a bone in my foot but because I didn't realise I'd done it I carried on training," said Revell.

"That obviously meant the injury didn't heal properly and three weeks ago I had to have an operation where a screw was put into my foot.

"I come off the crutches on Monday but it will take a little while for me to get back fit again."

But Revell, who emerged through the Abbey Stadium youth system, added he was still keen to secure a free transfer swoop to the Seasiders.

"I came down for training at the end of last season and really enjoyed it," he said. "The lads made me feel really welcome and I'm devastated at the timing of the injury."
