A Chelmsford bank, raided by armed robbers, has suffered a second break-in.

Police are appealing for witnesses to both crimes at Barclays Bank in the High Street and a £15,000 reward has been offered to catch last week's robbers.

The latest break-in happened at around midnight on Monday with the burglars using a ladder from a nearby building site to get onto the roof.

They could not access any money from the public area they landed in and made off empty-handed.

Det Insp Ewen Wilson said the two crimes were not being linked: "The robbery was very precisely planned, while the burglary was very amateurish."

The robbery, on Saturday, June 19 was carried out by two men carrying iron bars.

They bound staff with plastic ties before stuffing their holdalls full of cash. Both are described as black, about 6ft tall, aged about 30 and casually dressed.

Police want to speak to three occupants of a burgundy Golf GTI that was seen driving in Waterloo Lane at around 4pm.

DI Wilson said: "We want to trace this car and eliminate it from the enquiries, the occupants may have seen the robbers."

Call CID on 01245 491212 with any information.
