Administrators have been appointed for a Braintree company that laid off 140 staff last week.
Business rescue and insolvency specialists McTear Williams and Wood were appointed as administrators for Carier Bulk Materials Handling Ltd.
Carier Bulk Materials Handling, which was based in East Street, ceased trading last week after several difficult years due to the national decline of the agricultural and milling industries.
Despite diversification - which included making prefabricated buildings for a new British embassy in Iraq - the company was unable to remain in business.
Partners Andrew McTear and Chris Williams, of McTear Williams and Wood, were appointed joint administrators and will be handling the administration, along with fellow partner David Wood
Mr Wood said: "We will be working with the directors to seek a buyer for Carier Bulk Materials Handling Ltd. This may be for the company as a whole, or in parts, and we are expecting there to be a good level of interest.
"In the meantime, we have spoken to most of the staff and will help them with their claims for redundancy payments. We are examining ways of re-engaging a number of employees to help complete work in progress and sell spare parts."
