A motorcyclist has suffered critical injuries after being involved in a head-on collision with a heavy-duty tow truck towing a lorry.
The accident happened in Southend Road at Howe Green near Chelmsford at just after 1pm yesterday.
The biker, aged in his 50s and from Burnham, was airlifted to Broomfield Hospital after being treated by a doctor and paramedics at the scene.
The crash happened when the rider collided with the front of the vehicle before passing underneath its wheels, coming to rest underneath the truck's body.
The fire brigade used a heavy-duty lifting vehicle to raise the truck above the man, enabling the ambulance crew to get beneath to treat him.
He suffered massive multiple injuries to his head, chest and pelvic injuries and severe fractures to his leg.
