Teenager Dean Gerken said today he is 'ready to be thrown in at the deep end again' if Colchester United manager Phil Parkinson struggles to sign a new experienced goalkeeper.
The 19-year-old former Layer Road youth teamer told the Evening Gazette: "I'm ready for more first-team action and would relish the challenge should it come my way again.
"But I would think the manager is pulling out all the stops to bring another keeper in."
Gerken rose superbly to the task when he made his Nationwide League debut at Brentford on Easter Monday as an 11th-hour replacement for former U's number one Simon Brown, who fell sick.
