Hundreds of children sung in one voice as they played their part in a special year of celebrations.
About 200 primary school pupils joined together in a mass sing-song at Harwich Green, yesterday lunchtime. It had been organised to mark the 400th anniversary of the town's royal charter.
They shared a picnic together and then sung three sea shanties, accompanied by the Chase Lane School band. Harwich mayor Andy Morrison met with the children at the green.
While that was going on, pupils back at their primary schools made the words Harwich Charter 400 on their playgrounds. The display could be read from the sky.
Primary schools taking part included Chase Lane, Spring Meadow, St Joseph's, Harwich Community, All Saints' and Two Village Primary School, Ramsey.
