The showers did not dampen the spirits of festival-goers over the weekend as crowds attended three annual community events in Billericay, Stock and Great Burstead.

Thousands of people flocked to the Billericay Fun Day in Lake Meadows, the Great Burstead Festival at St Mary Magdalene Church and the Stock Flower Festival at All Saints' Church.

A range of fun activities were available at the festivals and although event organisers said numbers were down slightly due to the wet weather, all said the community spirit was out in abundance.

A tug of war between church leaders, a display by Billericay firefighters, Essex Search and Rescue team, the music band Addiction, a bouncy castle, a Punch and Judy show and more than 30 charities with stalls were among the highlights of the Billericay Fun Day on Saturday, June 26.

The Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower organised the day which also saw 600 balloons released as part of a fundraising balloon competition by the Basildon, Billericay and Wickford branch of the National Childbirth Trust.
