Star Trek's evil Borg Queen has launched a battle cry to save Basildon Sports Centre from weekend closure.
Hollywood star Alice Krige, who played the malevolent cyborg in the blockbuster movie First Contact, is to visit the centre on Sunday for a sci-fi collectors' fair.
Ms Krige, 50, has visited for a previous fair and is "extremely sad" to hear Basildon Council is considering closing the venue at weekends.
She said: "I am sure there must be a way the closure can be avoided. It's clearly a resource for the whole community and the weekends are surely when it is most needed."
A council spokesman said: "No formal decision has yet been taken regarding the future of leisure centres."
