Colchester Mayor John Bouckley joined many shoppers and workers to travel to the town centre today without using their cars.
He officially opened In Town Without My Car Day, which is part of a campaign to use public transport, walking and cycling, to leave town centres as social spaces,
Two of the centre's main roads, St Nicholas Street and Culver Street East, are closed until 6pm today to make way for a variety of stalls with environmental and transport information.
The event has been organised by the In Town Without My Car steering group.
