An intruder hit a man on the head with a brick after breaking into his home.
He struck at about 1.50am today at the victim's home in Bolsin Drive, Colchester.
After the attack, the man was taken to hospital by ambulance with a head injury but police said it was not life-threatening.
Police said the intruder drove away in a white Ford Transit van after the attack and four windows at the home were smashed during the raid.
