An anonymous benefactor has warmed the hearts of Scouts after thieves stole all the fuel needed to heat their headquarters.

Thorpe Scouts were left in the cold when more than 1,500 litres of oil needed to heat their hut was taken.

But after reading of the group's plight in the Gazette, a generous woman has stepped forward with £350 to repay their loss.

Group Scout leader Gwen Keeble said: "I have never been one to be gobsmacked but that really took my breath away. I thought that people like that didn't exist any more. We are so grateful to everyone who has helped."
