Plucky disabled youngster Alex Wakeling who captured the community's hearts can move into a more suitable home.

Housing association the Swan Group had refused to let the brain-damaged seven-year-old move into a bungalow after a mix-up.

The association had said the home had a bath, which was vital because of his injuries. But Alex's mother, Amanda, discovered it did not.

However, the group refused to install one and even demanded the keys back. Yesterday, within hours of the Gazette stepping in, it had reversed its decision.

Area manager Amanda Oakley said: "After talking to the occupational therapist, we have arranged to have a bath fitted."

"I just don't know what to say. I am just so grateful," Mrs Wakeling told the Gazette.
