An elderly man had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a fire at a house.
Firefighters from Tiptree and Tollesbury were called to a blaze in an upstairs bedroom at a house in The Street, Salcott-cum-Virley, at 5.15pm yesterday.
They were joined shortly after by firefighters from Colchester.
A spokesman for Essex Fire and Rescue said the room was well alight when the crews arrived and they spent more than half-an-hour battling smoke and flames before the fire was extinguished.
