Police are preparing to tackle New Year louts tonight.
Colchester Chief Insp Iain Logan warned officers will be out in force to ensure the town's New Year's Eve celebrations run just as smoothly as the Christmas period.
More officers will be hitting the streets to carry out high-visibility patrols and dish out fines for bad behaviour.
Chief Insp Logan said: "We will be running quite a significant operation, with more officers on duty to deal with issues should they arise, or handle them before they get out of hand.
"We have powers to issue £80 penalty notices for disorderly conduct and we will make full use of that wherever we can."
