Relegation should no longer be an issue for Colchester United.

Mathematically the drop could still happen, but the gulf in class between a team deep in relegation trouble, Peterborough, and a side on the up, the U's, was so great on Friday that fears of the drop can be put to bed.

The U's have turned things round dramatically since their 1-0 defeat to the hands of Brentford which put them dangerously close to the trap door.

That change has come with the arrival of Marino Keith and Marc Goodfellow at Layer Road.

Keith has added extra experience up front that the U's have been desperate for since the departure of Wayne Andrews to Crystal Palace last August.

Goodfellow's pace and power in his shot, meanwhile, has given the U's the venom their attack has been lacking since Craig Fagan left for Hull City in February.

This duo, along with the impressive form of Neil Danns, has helped to turn the U's from a team struggling to beat the drop to a team now hungry to finish on a high.

All three were on target, with Goodfellow's and Keith's goals their first in a U's shirt, as Colchester picked up another great result and remain unbeaten in four games.

Apart from a couple of early scares from Posh striker Andy Clarke, the U's backline was very rarely troubled.

It was from the back four that the first goal was created.

Right-back Sam Stockley soon woke everyone up when he pulled off a stunning volley that forced Posh goalkeeper Mark Tyler to full stretch as he just tipped it over the bar. The resulting corner was whipped in by Kevin Watson and a weak clearance saw Goodfellow fire in a vicious left-footed effort through a crowded area and past Tyler to give the U's the opener right before the interval.

On 70 minutes the Peterborough defence were again guilty of a poor clearance and Stockley was able to slip the ball through to Danns who scored from close range. Goodfellow had an effort go wide just two minutes later as Colchester bossed the match and kept up the pressure.

Peterborough tried to bring more threat into their attack when they brought on the towering Fola Onibuje on 78 minutes.

However, U's goalkeeper Davison was barely troubled by the striker.

Five minutes later the match was brought to its conclusion as Keith struck from the penalty spot to claim his first goal since he moved to the U's from Championship side Plymouth Argyle.
