Halstead Town boss Andy Clark watched his players hold aloft the Ridgeons League Cup and said: "They deserve that."

Clark's team outclassed Histon Reserves 3-1 in the final at Soham Town Rangers' Julius Martin Lane ground.

After falling behind early on, Halstead battled back and equalised before the break through former Colchester United trainee Ollie Blackwell.

Then spectacular second-half goals from another ex-U's starlet, Ben Cranfield, and midfielder Paul Miles ensured the cup won by Maldon Town last year was heading back to Rosemary Lane for the first time since 1996.

The victory rounded off a superb season for Halstead, as they also finished third in the Ridgeons League premier division, enjoyed a sterling FA Cup run and were runners-up in the Essex Senior Cup.

Clark said: "The players have worked so hard and deserve a trophy for their efforts this season.
