A CHARITY dance in memory of a sports-mad teenager who died aged 16 has raised hundreds of pounds.

Residents helped to raise £500 at a dance and buffet, organised by the Daniel Andrew Memorial Foundation.

About 120 people attended the event at the Officers Club, in St John’s Green, which featured live music from soul and reggae band Skandal.

It was the second major fundraiser organised by the charity set up to commemorate Daniel, who died when his bicycle was hit by a car in Greenstead Road, Colchester, in June 2008.

Members of the Communication Workers Union also presented £3,500.
