Regarding the Gazette article about Colchester Council using the power of the sun for the digital TV switchover (March 18), as commendable as it is to be green and environmentally friendly, there are issues that need to be addressed.

The council has committed £30,000 for 100 blocks to supply digital TV to those who live in those blocks; many of whom have already paid out to have other methods of receiving digital TV, i.e. Sky, cable, Freeview etc.

The solar panels only work to power signal boosters, they don’t actually save anybody money as far as I can see.

They won’t power the TVs or the digital boxes.

The other issue is, just how on earth is it friendly, eco or otherwise, to erect these things wherever they like?

Now, when we look out of our window, it’s like seeing part of Skylab.

We are used to seeing the wall. It was there when we moved in, but now! We were told things would be done to make them blend in better, but I dare not hold my breath.

Environmentally friendly; really?
