With regard to your article about MP Bob Russell and his failure to debate with myself and the other prospective parliamentary candidates in Colchester, I must clarify one point.
Mr Russell cannot claim he will only debate with us when an election has been called, as he has already taken part in a hustings event.
Mr Russell and I – and our Conservative opponent – took part in a debate with local businesses in October last year.
He raised no such objection to attending this event.
I would also have hoped that Mr Russell would have regarded himself, and all MPs, as “mere mortals” all the time, not just during elections.
To say otherwise shows how out of touch he is with the ordinary, hard-working people of Colchester.
