THE Robots are back! But we don’t mind, as one of them comes from Colchester.

One half of Robots in Disguise to be precise, Sue Denim, who requests the band include the town’s arts centre on their tours because it is where she grew up.

Along with Dee Plume, the former County High School for Girls’ student formed Robots in Disguise while they were studying at Liverpool University.

In 2004, living in London, the maverick electro, indie, rock and dance duo were snapped up by French record label, Recall, and released their eponymous album, which started a real buzz in Europe.

As well known for their colourful outfits and stage presence as their music, Robots in Disguise have graced the pages of numerous fashion magazines, donning their discopunk mod look.

When in London, Sue and Dee were involved in a collective of comedians and musicians who used to play the pub circuit, of which the Mighty Boosh’s Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt were a part.

That led to a part in their BBC2 series as evil alter egos, the Electro Girls and the Goth Girls.

n Robots in Disguise, with support from Scream Club, are at Colchester Arts Centre April 5.
