I am writing to express my praise and thanks for the incredible and professional work done by all of Colchester Council's staff who were working outdoors over the past week despite the severe weather.
Special mention should go to the recycling and refuse collection team, who completed an impressive 98 per cent of collections, despite the treacherous conditions.
Other waste collection services in Tendring, Braintree and Maldon ceased completely, as did some others in Essex, which makes their achievements even more remarkable.
The council also had more than 150 members of staff who were able to work from home on Wednesday and Thursday last week, delivering an excellent service in exceptional circumstances thanks to the innovative new flexible working scheme.
A fantastic performance all round by our hard-working and dedicated teams.
