A BISHOP performed a blessing with a difference when he visited the home of the Essex Air Ambulance.

The Rt Rev Dr Laurie Green, Chelmsford’s acting bishop, conducted the service at Boreham Airbase where the helicopter team is based.

He prayed for the crew and all those the helicopter helps.

Dr Green, who is the Bishop of Bradwell, said: “This is a special moment, it is not every day that a bishop has the opportunity to bless a helicopter. But it is very appropriate because the Air Ambulance does life saving work.”

The blessing took place as the Essex Air Ambulance charity joins forces with the Friends of Essex Churches to launch the Great Essex Feast.

The event takes place on the weekend of February 27 and 28 and urges people to hold dinner parties across the county to raise money for both charities.
