RESIDENTS troubled by antisocial behaviour will be able to call a hotline to get help.

Colchester police and Colchester Council have set up the dedicated number.

The specialised team will direct the call to the relevant body, for example local police teams, housing association officials or council noise enforcement officers.

The number is not for reporting antisocial behaviour while it is happening, in those instances you should always contact police directly.

The line can be used to report incidents that have already happened or to get advice.

Tim Young, councillor responsible for street services, said: “I think the hotline is an excellent resource, which will help us to more effectively tackle the nuisance of antisocial behaviour.”

Insp Andy Fusher said: “The hotline puts victims first and puts their call to the right people straight away, and will allow us to work closely with the council to deal with any issues swiftly.”

The number is 01206 282731 and launches on Monday. It’s open from 8.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.
